Day 260- Stephen Harper Addresses Parliament in Canberra

Good on ya, Stephen!
Apparently, the Canadian PM had the two houses of the Australian Parliament in stitches with his "Senate Envy" remark. Only in Australia!
Now that I have your attention...
It was just another September 11th here. Cool and rainy, unlike all of August and the first week of September, which have been gloriously pleasant. Todays downpours may put a damper on the friendly soccer match at the "G" between the Socceroos and Argentina (latest update: Socceroos nil- Argentina 1).
The weather is actually the focus of today's Blog. I received an email from a friend of mine in Kuwait, who has learned that the Bedouin describe 12 seasons in that region.
Here in Australia, the Aborigines usually describe 6 seasons, depending on the part of the country you are in. Here in Melbourne, they are: Kangaroo Apple Season (December), Dry Season (Jan-Feb), Eel Season (March), Wombat Season (April-August), Orchid Season (September), Tadpole Season (October), Grass-flowering Season (November).
Other areas of the country, such as Kakadu Park in the Northern Territory (where we will be in 3 weeks), the seasons are observed in this way: Gunumeleng - Pre-Monsoon Storm Season, Gudjewg - Monsoon Season, Banggerreng - Knock 'em down storm Season, Yegge - Cooler but still humid Season, Wurrgeng - Cold Weather Season, Gurrung - Hot Dry Weather
As an aside, it was snowing in the Victorian high country today.
